PUBLIC TREASURY

GANGSTERS BEWARE!

“Thieves Operate in the Dark, Yet are Visible in Ways Many Can See.” Scottish Proverb

Every year paperwork con artists, from mega-billion dollar corporations to family run fraud shacks, rip off American government to the tune of untold tens of billions of dollars.  Few are caught.  The federal government acknowledges about 10% of payments from federal programs are stolen every year.

The thieves that are caught typically are discovered and exposed by those working in some way with the fraudster.  These people become knowledgeable and outraged at the crime.  Then they use the only effective means there has ever been in the United States for uncovering and exposing fraud against the public treasury.

It is time Alaska joined twenty-nine other States in trying to do something about the tens of millions of dollars that state government is conned into giving to flimflam men every year.  Alaska needs its own False Claims Act, a Whistleblower Protection Act and an Alaska Fraud Hotline that offers confidentiality kept outside of direct State record-keeping.  The present limited measure relating to Medicaid Fraud is far from enough protection.

At this coming session of the Alaska Legislature, the Alaska Policy Forum will propose new whistleblower laws that would finally greatly endanger the host of parasites who are routinely stealing the public funds of Alaska.  These new laws would provide the needed incentives to expose fraud against the state government, for whistleblowers to be protected to a large degree in doing so and, importantly, directly informs state employees, public contractors and their employees and Alaskans in general that all is not lost yet when it comes to ending theft from the government.

Two years ago an Alaska False Claims Act came within one committee hearing from becoming law.

THIS COMING YEAR, LET’S MAKE THE FINAL EFFORT IN ALASKA NEEDED TO COMBAT FRAUD WASTE AND ABUSE OF PUBLIC FUNDS THROUGH THE FALSE CLAIMS ACT!

Alaska Policy Forum website to read further about how Alaskans can save millions each year, both from fraud detected and from fraud deterred.
